Endowed with rich Aboriginal mythology, tree-filled valleys and the cooling waters of the Swan River, Walyunga National Park is the home to some of Perth’s best hiking trails.

Join us for this fantastic wildlife spotting 6km hike ideal for families and first timers as we guide you from the lower Pool and follow along the Swan River to witness the amazing Syd’s Rapids. Take in the sights of the heathlands with hakeas, grevilleas, and many more.  Archaeological evidence shows the area has been used by local Aboriginal people for more than 40,000 years.

With a combination of beautiful views, national park scenery, abundance of flora and fauna, cultural history, and of course a chance for some wildlife spotting, this hike is a great adventure for the curious hiker.

*Although we have spotted echidnas and kangaroos on this trail before, this can not be guaranteed!*

The hike begins at the lower Pool, and we head along the river to Syd's Rapids for a beautiful scenic 5km beginner friendly adventure in Walyunga National Park, Swan Valley.

What To Bring

  • Hiking shoes or comfortable trainers
  • Water bottle (at least 1L)
  • Sun protection and hat
  • Hiking poles if required
  • Bring some snacks and lunch to enjoy on the trail
  • No dogs allowed

Toilets available at your start point.
National Park Entry Fees apply of $15 per vehicle. We recommend carpooling. The entry fees are payable at the gate as you enter the National Park, and is not included in your ticket. If you are hiking often, we recommend purchasing a Parks Pass to have access to all National Parks unlimited. You can also purchase this through RAC memberships for a 50% discount.
The Echidna Trail Hike is located in Waylunga National Park, 40 kilometres north east of Perth. We will be meeting at the WALYUNGA POOL CARPARK off Walyunga Road. Please note that if you simply enter Walyunga National Park into your navigation system, it may direct you to a different location, about 30 km away! Please view our map for the exact location.
This hike is considered grade one. Suitable for all ages and no experience required. Tracks are relatively flat and surfaces are not sealed.
No-shows and cancellations received within 48 hours of hike departure will incur a 100% cancellation fee.

Cancellations within 2-7 days prior will incur a 50% cancellation fee. Cancellations received over 7 days in advance will receive a full refund or credit towards another hike experience. Please note that Rezdy fees are non refundable. Guests can transfer their booking to a friend with no penalty but must advise The Hike Collective so we can forward all booking information to the new attendee.

If The Hike Collective cancels an event due to weather or danger in any way, your ticket will automatically be moved to the new date, or you will be eligible to transfer amounts paid to another tour or receive a full refund.
We are aware of the current situation with regards to COVID-19 and are working with our team and guests to ensure the safety and health of all of those we come into contact with. Our tours are limited to 15 guests and up to 2 hike leaders. We request that all hikers and hike leaders maintain the 2m social distancing required by law at this time. If you are unwell at the time of the tour commencing, we request that you remain at home and get in touch with us regarding transferring your ticket to another date. We appreciate your understanding at this time and thank you for supporting local.
