5 Ways Soft Hiking Boosts Your Mental Health
In a world full of distractions, deadlines, and digital overload,…
The Perth Hills isn’t just a place—it’s a feeling. It’s the scent of jarrah after the rain, the crunch of dirt underfoot, and the rush of standing on a ridgeline, looking out over an endless sea of forest. It’s waterfalls tumbling through ancient valleys, wildflowers bursting to life along the trail, and crisp morning air filling your lungs.
Wanderfest Perth Hills is your chance to experience it all. This five-trail hiking series—brought to life by Perth Hills Tourism Alliance and Destination Perth, with support from the State Government through the Department of Local Government, Sport, and Cultural Industries—takes you deep into the heart of the region.
From Armadale to Kalamunda, Mundaring to Serpentine-Jarrahdale, and across Swan, you’ll step into landscapes rich in history, overflowing with breathtaking views, and brimming with the kind of nature that stays with you long after your boots hit the dirt. Whether you’re chasing adventure, craving a little solitude, or simply looking for a new trail to wander, WanderFest is your invitation to slow down, breathe deep, and reconnect.
The Piesse Brook Interpretive Trail is your chance to swap screens for scenery, trading the everyday for a journey through towering forests, granite outcrops, and winding creeks, all leading to the iconic Rocky Pool.
As part of the WanderFest Perth Hills series, this youth-focused guided hike is perfect for those who want to get out, get moving, and experience nature in a whole new way. The 3.4km return trail follows Piesse Brook, a lifeline for native wildlife, where you might spot splendid fairy wrens darting through the undergrowth, bobtails basking in the sun, and red-tailed black cockatoos soaring overhead. The trail meanders through ancient grass trees, towering jarrah and marri woodlands, and rocky ridgelines that make you feel like a true explorer.
With some steeper sections and uneven terrain, this hike is just the right mix of challenge and fun, perfect for families with a focus on youth exploration, with scavenger hunt sheets provided. Along the way, your guide will bring the landscape to life—sharing stories of how these forests have evolved, the significance of Piesse Brook, and the incredible plant and animal life that call it home.
The grand finale? Rocky Pool. A natural amphitheatre where the brook cascades over granite boulders, offering the perfect spot to pause, reflect, and take it all in. From here, we retrace our steps, moving through the valley with a fresh appreciation for what it means to be part of the wild.
The WanderFest Perth Hills series is proudly supported by the State Government through the Department of Local Government, Sport, and Cultural Industries, helping to create vibrant, inclusive, and connected WA communities through outdoor adventure.
If you’re ready to test your limits and experience nature like never before, grab your crew and join us for the Piesse Brook Youth Hike—it’s time to get out there.

My husband, son and I along with friends, a group of around 11 of us walked the Victoria Dam/Korung National Park hike (Bickley area) late yesterday afternoon/early evening. Kelly, our guide was most informative about the history of this remote area. First time we had hiked with Hike Collective, felt very safe despite the walk being of a moderate rated walk, very hilly at times, 7kms (approx) ending up at Victoria Dam which was truly spectacular. Great to get out and about in our own 'back yard', especially with a guide. Will definitely be hiking again with this company, thanks so much.
Great day out with the Hike Collective Team. Look forward to the next one.
Hike guides are organised and well informed. Lots of information about the local area, its history and plenty of opportunities to take photos. Love that you can do the hike "your" way while knowing that there is support and advice if needed.
Thanks Kate and crew for another fantastic hike.
