Start your Saturday in the nicest way possible: wandering through Perth Zoo before it opens, when it’s just you, the fresh morning air, and the animals easing into their day.
This two-hour experience begins with an easy, unhurried walk through the rainforest paths as the light comes through the trees and the city hasn’t quite caught up yet. Think: slower pace, fewer thoughts, and the rare feeling of having space to yourself.
After the walk, you’ll roll into a simple, beginner-friendly movement session (yoga, stretch, or sound-based relaxation). Nothing intimidating. Nothing overly bendy. Just 45 minutes of guided “oh wow, I actually needed that,” held in one of the zoo’s beautiful hidden pockets.
You don’t need to be “good at yoga.”
You just show up, follow along, and let the atmosphere do most of the work.
Every session feels a little different. Sometimes you’ll hear distant animal calls, sometimes it’s quiet, but that’s part of the fun. Being in nature-with-a-twist adds a sense of play you don’t get in a studio. You’ll finish with a cold-pressed juice and a gentle wander through the zoo’s African savannah and Australian bushland. A simple, feel-good way to wrap up your morning before heading back into real life.
Animal sightings aren’t guaranteed during the session, and the location varies, but the vibe is always the same: spacious, calm, and just the right amount of wild.

This tour has been beautifully curated to provide you with a space to get grounded and experience a moment of mindfulness amongst the sights, smells and sounds of the zoo. Seeing the zoo before it opened to the public also gave us an opportunity to see more of the animals than we did later in the day. The yoga was perfect for beginners. A truly wonderful experience! We would highly recommend it to others.
Yoga and time at zoo early in the morning. Our Saturday started before 7am and we were delighted that light misty rain was falling after a week of heat wave weather. Our host was fabulous, the yoga sensational and an early morning walk in the zoo exhilarating! Best way to start the weekend!
I was gifted a Zen in the Zoo experience for Christmas, and what a fabulous gift! After an introduction and some Perth Zoo history, we were led on a wonderful meditative walk through the rainforest. We then proceeded to the Oak Lawn, where Amber led a lovely yoga classes, suited to all yogi levels. We had drizzling rain throughout the whole experience, but this just added to the rainforest feel. Once our yoga practice had completed, we were treated to some yummy juice.
Our morning continued with a walk through the African Savannah, the Squirrel Monkey area, past the Orangutans, then in to the Australian bushwalk. The Hike Collective staff - Amanda, Amber and Chris, along with Zoo Keeper Kaylee, were all fabulous. The information Amanda shared was enlightening, and I learned a few new things about our zoo. Thank you to everyone involved in the organisation of this wonderful experience. It was a truly wonderful way to start a Saturday.
