    Tour Overview

    A Trail Guide Training Experience

Step into leadership. Learn to guide. Lead with heart.

Lead Wadjemup is a hands-on guide training program for those ready to inspire others on trail. As part of the Wadjemup Bidi Discovery Project, this pathway empowers volunteers to become confident, culturally aware hiking leaders on Wadjemup (Rottnest Island) and beyond.

Across four weekends from August to November 2025, you’ll train alongside experienced guides while supporting real-time hiking events through the Walk Wadjemup series. From cultural education to conservation action, every step is a lesson in leadership, community, and care.

You don’t need to be an expert — just someone who walks with curiosity, respect, and a willingness to grow.

    What’s Required:

    • Commitment to attend one of the four Walk Wadjemup weekends

    • Participation in all three online sessions prior to your hike

    • A willingness to learn, listen, and lead with care

    • No prior guiding experience is necessary — just a love for nature and community

You’ll select your preferred date when registering. All online sessions will be scheduled in the weeks leading up to your chosen weekend.

     Who It’s For:

    • Outdoor lovers ready to give back

    • Volunteers and community members with a heart for guiding

    • People of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities — inclusivity is core to our approach

    • Anyone looking to grow their confidence and lead others in the outdoors

This is a leadership journey rooted in respect, connection, and growth. Lead with us. Learn with us. Walk for something greater.

In partnership with the Rottnest Foundation and proudly supported by the WA State Government through the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport (CITS).

    What our guests are saying

    • Lakes and Bays of Rottnest didn’t disappoint.

Our guide ‘Squirrel’ was informative and accomodating for our group of Seniors (avg age 75, oldest 83!) 15 of the 25 did the extra km to the Lighthouse 12km in total and others opted for the shorter hike of 8km on a very hot day. The swim at The Basin was much appreciated. All keen to go back and explore some more of the Island. Thanks Hike Collective!

    • Island paradise

Usually go to Rottnest Island for swimming and cycling - and quokkas - so it was good to explore the island on foot. The views were spectacular and the guide was very knowledgeable on the island's history, etc

    • Rottnest Island day hike

A very well organised hike on Rottnest island. We walked on the island for 15k and dipped in the beautiful clear water later in the afternoon. We were given the option of walking another 3k after a refreshing swim or hop on the bus to get to the pub for a little drink before catching the ferry back to Fremantle at 4:30 p.m. The hike leaders are supportive.
