Welcome to part three in the 6-part series of Six Seasons Trails. Join us for a captivating journey through the Churchman Bushland during the vibrant Bunuru season, the hottest time of year. Spanning February and March, Bunuru brings hot easterly winds and cooling sea breezes, accompanied by the bloom of white flowering gums like Jarrah, Marri, and Ghost Gums. Look out for the striking female Zamia cones, ripening from green to bright red—a feast for local wildlife and a spectacular sight for hikers.
This 7-kilometre loop trail offers a challenging yet rewarding experience. Ascend steep inclines through jarrah forests, past rocky outcrops, and diverse bushland. Along the way, you’ll encounter breathtaking valley views, folklore-rich landmarks like Moondyne Joe’s cave territory, and natural marvels such as the Dolerite Wall—a towering 140-metre-long crag ideal for climbers.
The trail winds through history and nature, with highlights including remains of an old airstrip, and self-regenerating bushland. While the climb up “Heartbreak Hill” will test your endurance, seats at lookout points provide perfect spots to rest and take in panoramic views of the city and the Churchman Brook Valley.
This journey offers an immersive connection to the rhythms of Bunuru, inviting you to explore the landscape’s beauty and legends.

Churchman Brook Road
Your friendly guide will meet you at the end of Beeloo Close, Bedfordale, off Churchman Brook Road. If you go to the end of Beeloo Close, then there’s a far amount of parking available.
My husband, son and I along with friends, a group of around 11 of us walked the Victoria Dam/Korung National Park hike (Bickley area) late yesterday afternoon/early evening. Kelly, our guide was most informative about the history of this remote area. First time we had hiked with Hike Collective, felt very safe despite the walk being of a moderate rated walk, very hilly at times, 7kms (approx) ending up at Victoria Dam which was truly spectacular. Great to get out and about in our own 'back yard', especially with a guide. Will definitely be hiking again with this company, thanks so much.

Hike guides are organised and well informed. Lots of information about the local area, its history and plenty of opportunities to take photos. Love that you can do the hike "your" way while knowing that there is support and advice if needed.
