Meet Yanchep’s Newest Koalas
There’s fresh excitement at Yanchep National Park, where three new koalas – Miffy, Louie, and Franklin Doogsie – have joined the park’s resident koala family. This trio of adorable marsupials recently settled into their new habitat, marking a wonderful addition to Yanchep’s role as the only place in Western Australia where you can view koalas in the wild.
The New Faces of Yanchep National Park
The newcomers each bring their unique charm to the park. Miffy, a seven-year-old female from Ballarat Wildlife Park in Victoria, has joined 18-month-old brothers Louie and Franklin Doogsie, who arrived from Cleland Wildlife Park in South Australia. These new koalas join Kate and Koodah, two koalas descended from the original group introduced to Yanchep from South Australia in the 1980s. Together, they form a charming family who play an essential role in Australia’s koala conservation efforts.
Yanchep’s Long History of Koala Conservation
Yanchep National Park has been home to koalas since 1938, acting as a sanctuary and supporting conservation efforts for this beloved species. Perth Zoo’s expert veterinarians carefully monitored Miffy, Louie, and Franklin Doogsie during their quarantine to ensure they were well-prepared to settle into their new surroundings. Now, guests can enjoy watching the koalas in their open habitat from the dedicated boardwalk, offering an experience that connects visitors with both the natural world and ongoing conservation efforts.
We are excited to welcome the newest fluffy residents to bring more smiles and joy to our guests on tour in Yanchep National Park. What a unique experience to see these beautiful animals in a wild setting, in Western Australia.
More Than Koalas – Yanchep’s Alluring Mix of Nature and Adventure
Yanchep National Park has become a premier destination for locals and tourists alike, welcoming over 400,000 visitors last year following upgrades to its campgrounds and the enchanting Crystal Cave. A visit to the park offers much more than koala-spotting, with picturesque walking trails, and of course, The Hike Collective’s very own Cave Yoga & Hike Experience, offering exclusive access into the Cabaret Cave for a wellness practice before visiting the furry friends on the koala boardwalk.
