Our Year Of Impact. The Hike Collective Making A Difference

By Kate Gibson

At The Hike Collective, we’re passionate about creating experiences that connect people with nature while making a meaningful difference. Our focus is driven by our purpose,  giving back to the environment, supporting mental health, and fostering sustainable practices. From planting trees to backing life-changing mental health initiatives, 2024 has been a year of action and impact. Let’s dive into the highlights and celebrate what we’ve achieved together.

What We Achieved in 2024

Giving Back to the Environment

This year, we partnered with Carbon Positive Australia to tackle reforestation and climate change. Here’s how we made an impact:

  • 730 trees planted through guest donations.
  • Helped restore 275 hectares of degraded land.
  • Supported the planting of 284,000 seedlings and the reintroduction of 98 native species.

These initiatives also supported wildlife corridors, Indigenous employment, and urban greening projects to combat climate change and habitat loss. Every hike you joined helped make this possible.

Supporting Mental Health

Mental health is just as important as physical health, and this year we support Helping Minds to raise awareness and provide support. Together, we:

  • Funded counselling services for individuals and families in need.
  • Delivered workshops to help build resilience and reduce stigma around mental health.
  • Expanded access to educational tools and resources for mental wellbeing.

We’re also excited to announce our 2025 Mental Health Charity Support: The Blue Tree Project. By sparking conversations and raising awareness through striking blue tree installations, this incredible organisation will help us continue to prioritise mental health in the year ahead.

Guest Donations and Pledges

Thanks to your support, we’ve:

  • Planted additional trees 73 trees through guest donations.
  • Generated 6 Kings Park pledges for plant development.
  • Secured 15 Perth Zoo “Breed for Release” pledges to support conservation efforts.

We’re now aiming for 250 pledges in 2025 to help actionable projects with Kings Park, Rottnest Foundation, and Perth Zoo.

Looking Ahead: Our 2025 Goals

We’ve set some big, bold goals for the year ahead:

  1. Plant 2,000 trees to continue combating climate change and restoring degraded land.
  2. Educate 10,000 hikers about sustainable hiking practices through tours and workshops.
  3. Raise $20,000 for environmental projects by enhancing our pledge system.
  4. Generate 250 pledges to support projects with our key partners.

With your support, we can make 2025 our most impactful year yet.

FAQs About Our Impact

Why is reforestation important in the South West region?

Reforestation helps combat climate change, restores habitats for native wildlife, and improves air and soil quality. In regions like South West WA, it also supports biodiversity and connects fragmented ecosystems.

How do guest donations contribute to environmental projects?

Your donations go directly to partners like Carbon Positive Australia to fund reforestation, habitat restoration, and conservation efforts. Every dollar makes a tangible difference.

What is the Blue Tree Project?

The Blue Tree Project raises awareness about mental health by painting trees blue, creating visible symbols that inspire conversations and reduce stigma.
